Later, in March 2001, out of curiosity, I looked at it a second time. After a quick internet search, I discovered that this Merezhkovsky was not a mere metaphysical crank, but a rather well-known author of historical and religious novels. Some comments hinted that his book Atlantis-Europe might be a valuable one. So I went on, and noticed something weird.
The guy was born on 14th August 1865. My birth date is 15th August 1965. Funnily enough, this person had almost the same birthday as me, with exactly a century difference. Within the Julian calendar, in use in Russia at the time, we even had the same birthday: our birth dates respectively become 2th August 1865 and 2th August 1965. (Between 1800 and 1900, the two calendars diverged by 12 days, after 1900 by 13 days. The Gregorian calendar, of papal origin, was adopted between 1582 and 1756 by most Western European countries. Russia switched to it in 1918.) |
